Fort Bragg Federal Credit Union will bring health care providers, wellness businesses and financial resources together for its first Health & Wealth: Thrive in Every Stage of Life event.
The free community event will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Thursday, Sept. 24, beside the credit union’s Skibo branch. Attendees can receive health screenings, observe CPR demonstrations and learn about fitness, wellness and personal finance resources available in the Fayetteville area.
The event coincides with Healthy Aging Month, a national observance held each September to encourage adults to take steps toward improving their physical, mental and social well-being.
Abby Spencer, a representative of Fort Bragg Federal Credit Union, said the organization developed Health & Wealth as part of its growing community outreach efforts.
“Fort Bragg Federal Credit Union has always valued opportunities to show appreciation for our members and get involved in the community, but we wanted to take that a step further with something more impactful,” Spencer said. “We’ve been increasing our community involvement, and with September being National Healthy Aging Month, we thought a health focused event would be a great fit.”
Cape Fear Valley Health and VIA Health Partners will provide screenings, including blood pressure checks, vital sign assessments and diabetes screenings. CPR demonstrations and information from area health and wellness organizations will also be available.
Participating vendors include Crunch Fitness, All American Weight Loss and Wellness, Graze Craze, Riman and Dick’s House of Sport Fayetteville.
Spencer said limited awareness of available services can be a significant barrier for people seeking to improve their health. Cumberland County and surrounding communities have organizations addressing physical health, mental and emotional wellness, and financial well-being, but residents may not know how to find or access them.
The event is intended to give residents a central place to meet representatives, ask questions and discover services they may not have previously known were available.
Preventive care will be one of the gathering’s central themes. Routine screenings can uncover potential health concerns before symptoms become severe, giving individuals more time to seek medical guidance and make informed decisions.
“The earlier you identify something, the more opportunity you have to address it,” Spencer said. “Something as simple as a quick screening could potentially identify an issue someone wasn’t aware of and make a real difference in their life.”
Organizers are also emphasizing the connection between physical and financial well-being. Financial stress can affect many areas of a person’s life, while sound money management habits can help individuals prepare for emergencies and pursue long term goals.
Credit union representatives will share information about saving, borrowing and using financial products such as money market accounts and certificates of deposit. Spencer said saving consistently is a basic but often overlooked part of financial wellness.
“Everyone is looking for a great way to get rich quick, but sometimes we don’t realize just how powerful simply saving can be,” Spencer said.
The credit union also offers youth savings and checking accounts designed to help young people develop money management skills. Introducing those habits early can give children a stronger foundation for handling income, expenses and future financial decisions.
Although its name reflects its connection to the military community, Fort Bragg Federal Credit Union membership is not limited to military personnel. People who live, work or worship in Cumberland, Moore, Hoke, Robeson, Harnett, Lee or Scotland counties are eligible to join.
As a not for profit financial cooperative, the credit union offers deposit accounts, loans and other financial services. Organizers hope the event will introduce more residents to those options while making health and wellness information easier to access.
“Our goal is to help people thrive in every stage of life,” Spencer said.
