Come join Dirtbag Ales Brewery and Taproom for their Oktoberfest on Oct. 3 and Oct. 4. Dirtbag Ales is located at 5435 Corporation Drive in Hope Mills.
On Oct. 3, events kick off at noon and last until 11 p.m. Field games and activities by Rogue Alpha Athletics start at 3 p.m. and will run until 5 p.m.
Festival-goers can partake in a dirndl and Lederhosen contest at 5:30 p.m. and a stein-holding contest at 6 p.m. A Bavarian Brass Band will play from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Oct. 4 events begin with Dirtbag Ales’ Farmer’s Market at 10 a.m. and will continue throughout the day with family-friendly activities and celebrations.
Food and drinks will be available from food trucks such as Pinewurst, Harmon’s Deutsche Kuche and Authenique, and of course Napkins will be dishing out delicious bites. Five-dollar beers are available in the little pavilion all weekend, with ten different beers to choose from. Admission is free to the public.
Oktoberfest began October 12, 1810, as a five-day public wedding celebration honoring the marriage of Crown Prince Ludwig of Bavaria (later King Ludwig) and Princess Therese of Saxe-Hildburghausen. The royal family invited the citizens of Munich to festivities on the fields outside of the city gates.
In 1811 there was the addition of the agricultural show to promote the farmers, and Oktoberfest has grown from there, with celebrations all over the world.
